Title: Systems Engineer (Infrastructure & Virtualization)

Client: Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS)

The client is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Systems Engineer (Infrastructure & Virtualization) to lead the administration and modernization of its virtualized infrastructure and enterprise Windows Server environment. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience with VMware vSphere, Windows Server, and supporting enterprise storage and application delivery platforms. This position plays a critical role in ensuring high availability, performance, and security of mission-critical systems across primary and disaster recovery (DR) sites.

Key Responsibilities:

Virtualization & Server Infrastructure:

  • Lead the planning, deployment, and management of VMware vSphere (6.x to 8.x) and ESXi environments, including multi-cluster configurations across production and DR sites
  • Administer and monitor VMware vCenter, vSphere Replication, and associated appliances
  • Serve as a technical resource for the VMware Horizon/Omnissa View VDI deployment and support.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot Dell server hardware, VxRail, and integration with enterprise storage platforms (e.g., PowerMax, PowerStore, PowerScale)

Windows Server & Active Directory:

  • Manage Windows Server environments (2000–2022) including Active Directory (AD DS), DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy across multiple domains and forests.
  • Conduct server upgrades, domain migrations, and file server consolidations with minimal downtime.
  • Support and enhance enterprise patching via WSUS and third-party solutions.
  • Maintain antivirus infrastructure and support AV upgrades/migrations.

Storage & File Services:

  • Monitor storage connectivity to Dell storage systems and assist in migrating protocols from FCoE to iSCSI.
  • Create and manage centralized file shares, quotas, and high availability storage.
  • Consolidate and migrate data from distributed file servers to enterprise NAS platforms with minimal service disruption.

Application & Network Integration:

  • Administer Citrix application farms, Citrix NetScaler, and assist with load balancing and remote access.
  • Support third-party integrations including Varonis, OKTA, Helix, and CrowdStrike Falcon.
  • Leverage vRealize Operations Manager for system performance, capacity planning, and forecasting.
  • Utilize enterprise monitoring and management tools such as SolarWinds, ManageEngine, and Quest Desktop Authority.
  • Automation, Documentation & Support:
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts (e.g., PowerShell, batch) for systems management and task automation.
  • Create and update comprehensive technical documentation, including Visio network and systems diagrams.
  • Respond to infrastructure incidents and participate in a weekly on-call rotation.
  • Provide Tier 3 technical support, guidance, and mentorship to staff and end users.
  • Assist with change management, service desk escalations, and routine maintenance activities.
  • Participate in meetings with internal teams and vendors to evaluate, plan, and implement infrastructure projects.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Certifications
    • VMware Certified Professional (VCP) – Required
    • Microsoft Certified: Windows Server or Azure Administrator – Required
    • Additional certifications (e.g., Citrix, Dell, Cisco, CrowdStrike) are a plus
  • Experience:
    • 10+ years of experience managing VMware vSphere, ESXi, and enterprise virtualization environments.
    • 10+ years administering Windows Server environments, including Active Directory and core services.
    • Strong experience with enterprise storage and data migration projects.
    • Proven track record supporting VDI, Citrix environments, and system automation efforts.
  • Strong knowledge of Active Directory architecture, replication, and Group Policy management.
  • Expertise in PowerShell scripting and systems automation.
  • In-depth experience with virtual desktop infrastructure and VMware Horizon.
  • Familiarity with enterprise antivirus, patching, monitoring, and SIEM integrations.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting complex issues across infrastructure, applications, and networks.
  • Ability to support high-availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity configurations.
