Description

Position: Senior Application/System Engineer

Description/Responsibilities: Responsible for providing application, database, and systems support for the AICMS application and related correctional management systems. The individual is responsible for the following tasks:

  • Provide ongoing production support, maintenance, troubleshooting, and enhancements for the AICMS application and related system
  • Perform OpenVMS system administration, including system maintenance, patch installation, system security, performance monitoring, capacity planning, and troubleshooting of hardware and system failures
  • Manage and maintain OpenVMS clusters, SAN storage, system utilities, backups, and recovery procedures
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance applications using C, Java, ACMS, DECforms, DECset, SQL, SQLMOD, Oracle Rdb, and Oracle Common Data Dictionary
  • Perform database administration for applications including Inmate Phone, Inmate Property, Inmate Financial, and Commissary systems
  • Design, redesign, implement, and maintain database structures and enhancements
  • Monitor database performance and perform physical database, query, and application tuning and optimization
  • Analyze and modify database storage areas, indexes, record placement, transaction paths, and record access strategies to improve system performance
  • Design and maintain database backup, restore, recovery, formatting, and archiving procedures while maintaining cross-database data integrity and constraints
  • Analyze database dumps and perform reverse engineering and data recovery activities in cases of severe database corruption
  • Develop and maintain Java-based enterprise applications using Core Java, multithreading, concurrency, annotations, collections, JSF, RichFaces, MyFaces, Tomahawk, Spring, Hibernate, and Jasper
  • Develop and support SOAP and REST web services and integrations
  • Develop and maintain applications using relational databases and SQL, with emphasis on DB2
  • Deploy and support applications using WebSphere and Tomcat application servers
  • Perform DB2/Linux administration and support database environments across application and infrastructure platforms
  • Support ETL, data warehousing, reporting, and analytics environments, including Cognos
  • Collaborate with application developers, database administrators, system administrators, business stakeholders, and other technical teams to troubleshoot issues and implement enhancements
  • Perform application and system testing, troubleshooting, performance analysis, and root-cause analysis
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for applications, databases, system configurations, operational procedures, and recovery processes

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in application development, systems administration, database administration, and/or related technical areas
  • Strong experience with Core Java, including multithreading, concurrency, annotations, collections, and enterprise application development
  • Hands-on experience with Java frameworks and technologies including JSF, RichFaces, MyFaces, Tomahawk, Spring, Hibernate, and Jasper
  • Strong experience developing and consuming SOAP and REST web services
  • Strong knowledge of relational databases and SQL; DB2 experience is required
  • Experience with enterprise application servers such as WebSphere and Tomcat
  • Strong database administration experience, including database design, maintenance, monitoring, performance tuning, backup, recovery, and optimization
  • Experience tuning physical database structures, operating systems, and application queries for performance optimization
  • Experience designing and programming database backup, restore, recovery, formatting, and archiving procedures
  • Experience supporting systems requiring significant cross-database data integrity and constraint management
  • Experience analyzing database dumps and reverse engineering data to recover information from severely corrupted databases
  • Experience with DB2 on Linux
  • Experience with OpenVMS clusters and Digital Command Language (DCL)
  • Experience with CPU-independent SAN technology and OpenVMS capacity planning and performance management
  • Experience with OpenVMS system utility and monitoring tools
  • Knowledge of ETL and data warehousing concepts and technologies
  • Experience with Cognos and enterprise reporting environments
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work across application development, database, systems, and infrastructure teams
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
