Position: Mainframe z/OS Installation & Maintenance Specialist (MQ & CICS)
Work Location: On-Site in Pikesville, MD

Overview: Supports the mainframe environment for a Maryland State agency located in Pikesville, MD. Duties include designing, implementing, and supporting new and ongoing projects in a large-scale environment (over 10,000 users).

Responsibilities:
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience with at least one of the following, in a large-scale environment with 10,000 users or more.
  • System programming, installation, configuration, customization and maintenance of z/OS and the supporting programs, including UNIX System Services (USS), Global Resource Serialization (GRS), utilizing the software tools SMP/E, TSO/E, JES2, TMON/MVS, TCP/IP and ACF/VTAM.
  • Experience with JCL and IBM Utilities (IDCAMS, etc.)
  • System programming of z/OS and z/Series hardware definitions, using Hardware Configuration Definition (HCD) in a Logical Partition (LPAR) environment, including IOCDS/IODFS configuration and implementation.
  • General knowledge of DB2, IMS, and CICS as they pertain to z/OS.
  • Assist in the performance of periodic and regular disaster recovery and fail-over tests to ensure adequacy of plan. Recommend changes to plan based on results.
  • Diagnosing z/OS performance problems and tuning that operating system.
  • Knowledge and experience reading and analyzing z/OS dumps.
  • Knowledge and experience running and reading VTAM trace dumps.
  • System programming, installation, configuration, customization and maintenance of miscellaneous third-party software products.
  • Install and use SAS/MXG software and IBM’s Workload Manager to perform capacity planning and performance tuning.
  • Install, maintain, and use the TMON monitoring tools for MVS, DB2, and IMS.
  • Ensure adequate system backups are performed and recovery strategy developed.
  • Develop and support system exits and utility programs, if needed.
  • Systems programming, installation, configuration, customization and maintenance of z/OS and the supporting programs, utilizing SMP/E, TSO/E, and JES2.
  • Systems programming of z/OS and z/Series hardware definitions, using HCD in an LPAR environment.
  • Diagnosing z/OS performance problems and tuning that operating system
  • MQ series experience
